Obelus moratus from Fuerteventura

Obelus moratus (Mousson, 1872) inhabits only the mountain peaks of the Jandia peninsula in Fuerteventura. The area is designed as 'nature park' but in fact there is a heavy impact on the soil due to overgrazing by goats. In early 2019 this species could only be found by the author inside the fenced area aroud the hightes peak, Pico de la Zarza. Visitors are advised to carefully CLOSE THE GATE to prevent goats from entering this protected area. Otherwise the goats will cause enormous harm to the endemic vegetation, soil and endangered animals of that zone.
