Mimachlamys varia (Linnaeus, 1758) from Italy, Grado.
The picture shows beach-collected bivalve specimens which measure around 50 mm. Their diversity of colours has given rise to several form names. Below a short survey about the commonness of some colour variations in M. varia from the Grado lagoon (N=90):

M. varia forma rubra-fusca (Scacchi, 1836): 39 (44 %)
M. varia f. purpurea (Jeffreys, 1864): 34 (37 %)
M. varia f. atra (Locard, 1888): 11 (12 %)
M. varia f. aurantia (Clement, 1879): 5 (6 %)
M. varia f. rubra (Scacchi, 1836): 1 (1 %)
